THE BIRTH OF JACKSON PATRICK

On a Aloha Friday (like we call all Fridays in Hawaii), at 40 weeks + 5 days, Lianna texted me saying her induction was scheduled for the following Monday since there were no signs of labor.
I told her not to discard the possibility of going into labor on her own and to take long walks.

On Sunday she texted me again saying her water had broken spontaneously. I was so excited for them! I was really rooting for her to experience a natural onset of labor! This was around 5pm on Sunday.

Baby Jackson was born 12 hours later, at 5:14am. He had a little trouble taking deeper breaths on his own and had to be taken up to the NICU for additional care. I went back a couple of days later to document the final part of their birth story when he was discharged from the NICU and was ready to go home.

I always say what a great honor it is to be there, to witness and to document the miracle of life. It truly is! Being invited into a family's birth space is amazing and always leaves me energized no matter how long I am there for.
