THE BIRTH OF FREJA
The Galvans decided to move to Hawaii for a job opportunity while pregnant with their 4th. They called me early in their pregnancy and while still on the mainland, so I was able to give them suggestions on my favorite home birth midwives and they made all the decisions from there on.
We met a few months later when they were settled into their rental home up at Saint Louis Heights in Honolulu. What an amazing view of Diamond Head and Waikiki!
When labor came, we knew I had to make the drive into town as quickly as possible since her previous births had been speedy. It was a gorgeous day and I was excited for all the natural light I knew their home would have.
Kilah labored quietly and beautifully surrounded by her 3 older children, her husband, her friend and her midwifery team. She was in her bathroom when she calmly said " I think I might need to push?" then slowly walked to the tub and breathed that baby out and just took her time listening to her body.
Baby Freja was born covered in thick vernix. Probably the most I've ever seen. There were chunks of it floating in the pool and it got so think on the midwife's stethoscope that she had to wipe it down in order to listen with it.
To see that much love was amazing. I am so grateful I was there to document the beautiful birth of their daughter Freja <3
