Telling Stories | North Shore, Oahu Maternity Photographer

I recently came across a wedding and elopement photographer saying that they see a lot of maternity photography out there but never sees the story being told through the images. That’s true. Most maternity photos lean heavily on the visual theatrics of photography. I’m not here to bash that type of art. There are clients out there who want exactly that… maybe because that’s what we collectively know to be the way to document pregnancy… who knows.

I’ve always wanted to go the opposite route with my maternity photography. I want to tell the story. I want my photography to show you a glimpse of who my expecting couples (or families, if they’re adding another baby to it) are.

I always tell my clients to be who they are, to pick a spot that means something to them, and to being their whole unapologetic self to our time together, because I want that to show through in their images.

Ultimately, those stories are not mine to tell. But if I’m granted permission, I always love to tell them via words as well. We, collectively, need to talk more about the struggles and joys of getting pregnant, of carrying or miscarrying babies, of celebrating rainbow babies, babies that took forever to be conceived, or first try babies. I’m here to celebrate all the stories with you. Thank you for letting me <3
