A family centered c-section - Miami Birth Photographer

Heather was planning for VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) at home. Everything was ready, including the birth pool which was already set up in her living room. At 40 weeks she found out the baby was breech and all her plans changed.

With the help of her midwife, she was able to find a doctor who was willing to perform a "gentle" (or family centered) c-section and accommodate most of her requests.

What most impressed me was Heather's constant joy. It was contagious. Even though things didn't happen as she had dreamed and planned, her spirits were high.

I was extremely moved to see baby Wyatt being carefully delivered, bum first, into the world.

A hole was cut on the protective drape, and since there were no complications at all, he was passed onto mom through the hole with the umbilical cord still attached to the placenta. The anticipation and joy on Heather's face as she grabbed her baby was something I'll never forget.

There was delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin and the pediatrician did all the initial assessment while Wyatt was still on Heather's chest.

Heather had heard I was starting to try my hand at video documentation, so she hired me to do a full video of Wyatt's birth day. I am extremely happy with the results and honored to have been able to witness and document this wonderful experience that the whole family had.

Please take a few minutes to watch Wyatt Thomas' birth story and rejoice with the May family.

Thank you!

Sophia.
